What is a vision board?
Remember when you were in elementary school and you would cut out the best pictures from your mom’s magazines and paste them onto a piece of poster board? Well, that’s kind of how vision boards work!
A vision board is a collage or collection of pictures, quotes, and other things that represent a goal that you’re working towards. It’s an awesome way to set your goals and keep them at the front of your mind! You can make different vision boards for different goals, or you could just have one board for your life.
Let me tell you why you need a vision board
You may be thinking, “why the heck do I even need a vision board? Aren’t vision boards just for businesses?”.
Vision boards help you stay on track with your goals and your purpose! By creating a vision board you are getting your goals out of your head and out into the world. This way you can make sure to stay on track with your goals by keeping them right there in front of you.
Vision boards are not just for businesses! Yes, it’s very important for a business to create one, but it’s also important for you! I am sure that you have dreams, aspirations, and goals just like big businesses do. You’re dreams and goals are just as important as anyones!
Should you create a physical board or a virtual board?
This is honestly a personal preference. It just depends if you’re more of a virtual person or a physical person.
If you’re someone who loves planners and journals or is very creative, then you might prefer the physical board. One thing I prefer about a physical board is that you can set it up in your space so that you can always see it and keep your goals at the front of your mind!
If you’re the kind of person who only uses their phone for reminders and their google calendars for planning, then you will probably do better with a virtual board! A virtual board can be made on a program like Canva or Picmonkey, or you could even use Pinterest! My suggestion with virtual boards is that you set the board as your phone or computer background so that you can reference it often.
How to plan your board
First, I want you to sit down and write out what you want to accomplish in the next 5 years. Who do you see yourself as 5 years from now? Maybe those goals look something like, “Be an amazing wife, become a morning person, be financially free, be well-traveled”.
Then, take those goals and find photos or quotes that well represent what you want to accomplish. If you want to be married by then, find a picture of a bride and groom. If you want to own your own home, find a picture of your dream house. You see where I’m going here? Try to find at least one photo or quote for each goal.
How to actually set it up
If you’re going to be creating a physical board, you’ll need to print out or cut out your photos. You’ll need a few supplies like: glue, scissors, poster board, stickers, glitter… (everything needs a little glitter). Once you have all of that you’re ready to put it together! I suggest laying everything out on the poster board before you start gluing, so you know that it will all fit and nothing will be covered up.
If you’re creating a virtual board, decide how you’re going to make it (photoshop, Canva, Picmonkey, etc.) and upload all of your photos. Then go ahead and start creating your board! (you can still add virtual glitter, by the way)
Make sure that your board fully reflects your goals when you’re done. If your goals change you can always cover a few things up with new photos, or you can always make a new board!
Set your board up somewhere you can see it throughout the day, so you will never lose sight of your goals!
